A Tale of
Transformation
Just across the James River from Lynchburg lies Madison Heights, a small community with big potential. Created in the Georgian Revival-style, the Phelps School was built from 1925-1966 and remained in use until 1991. The property suffered some degradation during its 30-years vacancy, but we jumped in and brought this building back to life.
With support from the Amherst County Economic Development Authority, Amherst County, and historic tax credits, we created The Westie, a market-rate apartment building accommodating 41 units. While pets are tolerated in some apartment buildings, they are welcome at The Westie. With a dog wash station, lots of open space for dog walking and a dog park (coming soon) The Westie takes pet-friendly to a new level. With modern fixtures, stainless steel appliances, tons of natural light, and original chalkboards, tile, and cupboards, The Westie is the perfect place to call home.
