Hidden treasure

In Bedford

Formerly operated as Hampton Looms Woolen Mill, 510 Grove Street produced many of the materials used for military uniforms and coats during World War II. After sitting vacant for many years, the building was thought to be long forgotten. But, we could see the endless possibilities in this hidden treasure.

The building was purchased in 2013, and with the help of Bedford County’s Economic Development Authority and the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, the project secured over $1 million worth of grant and loan funding. In addition, the project utilized federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credits.

Since its opening in June 2017, the charm of the Beale’s legend and the brewery’s crisp, relatable beer has exceeded expectations. More than 30 jobs have been created at the restaurant brewery, and over 2,000 people turned out for its grand opening. Beale’s currently distributes its beer throughout Central and Southwest Virginia.
